Common Sense

Ermm.. did I ever blog about this topic "Common Sense"? Well I guess not, if I did, I want to repeat this again. The importance of training the brain to be aware of things around you.
What is Common Sense?
Well, according to Wikipedia: It is a strict construction of the term, consists of what people in common would agree on: that which they "sense" as their common natural understanding. Thus "common sense" (in this view) equates to the knowledge and experience which most people allegedly have, or which the person using the term believes that they do or should have.
Hmmm.. make any sense? To me basically I feel it's the common daily routines or actions or even knowledge that one would apprehend and believe to know; is called common sense. For example like say holding a pencil? Flushing the toilet after usage... etc.
Now what I want to highlight here is.... how does one teach common sense to their children? Does all parents know the importance of common sense? And how do we determine which and what common sense to teach a child?
Then again, it all depends on the parents whether to teach their child common sense or not as well. These days I find parents seldom teaches common sense to their kids as we ourselves are expected to figure it out when we were young. How brilliant is that?
So back again, Basic common sense like how to walk properly or sit properly when studying... how to hold a pencil... how to stand properly... all these are as important as to how to study well in school. So, I guess I have made my point clear here that these minor stuff is actually the most important things that one must teach their kids. Have I make myself clear?

What is Beauty?

While browsing through the net I came across an interesting fact about "Women and Beauty". What is the definition of Beauty in women today? I am a fashion designer and of course I will keep on pursuing the dream of perfectness in all women... especially their beauty and body.
What I am proposing here is the facts about beauty.
First of all, all women are beautiful if, they are not lazy about presenting their own image.
Well then again what people perceive as beautiful depends on the eye of the beholder. Like who the woman wants to presents herself to; her hubby? her child? her family? her friends? or the public?
The myth is we must all wear makeup, get a hairdo, get a dress that suits and pair up with shoes and accessories. Oh trust me, we do not do that often, especially when you are on your way to do grocery shopping or pick up your kids at school.
Now what is beauty again?
  • First about makeup....... why airbrush off the true face of a woman and erase her true identity, power and history?
  • Hairdo..... why bother to colour your hair and done up nicely while you tie it all up whenever you are busy?
  • Dress..... why buy an expensive dress and want to remain in a certain shape while one does not keep their health in good condition?
  • Shoes..... if you bother to spend money on all the above... why not get a pair of good shoes that lasts and not one that is easily broke and uncomfortable?
  • Accessories... if you feel this is not important at all please don't bother to dress up!

If you really want to look good, do it everyday... not only on your wedding day or birthday only. Your identity and image is important, give yourself a chance and not excuse of being busy, no matter who you are dressing for, I always say you dress for yourself and no other person. The last thing we need is people telling us what to do with our body and image.

P/S: Oh do keep in mind that PLEASE dress according to who you are and not what you want! There's a big difference! A ten year old is not suppose to dress like her mother, likewise her mother should not dress like her child!

Am into Early Literacy Development....

Recently am attending workshops on early literacy......... hmm found an ad in the newspaper and so I thought I might try this out as I am now going to have my own child soon so some research to be done!
Am sharing here a bit about what I've learn so far. That is Phonological awareness based on the Montessori Methods. Basically this is apply to the English language, but it seems like Malay language and the Chinese language can also be taught in the similar way.
I've found out that Phonics helps a child to learn the alphabets and make them recognizes familiar words by pronouncing the correct sounds. In this way a child do not need to learn the spelling but can listen and spell correctly once they know the phonics well. But of course this does not mean that they understand every single meaning of the word; basically they are able to read, spell and pronounce correctly that's all. The meaning and knowledge of the word will come in later. Of course basic grammar are taught to form sentences as well.
Not to brag on about phonics... but overall what I've learn so far is that children must be expose to all different skills using their senses. Not only on study but also learn to play using their senses. Like using their eyes to visually see and being inspired.... ie colours, use their sense of smell, touch and feel different things and texture. Expose their tastes buds, eating and tasting different types of food. Let them listen to various sounds and music. All these are equally important to a child rather than just develop on the brain by pouring in all sorts of knowledge.
Research has shown that these days kids as young as a 3 year old are actually having nightmares about homework! Child psychologists are having patients with straight As! Come on, the adults are killing their kids with their own high hopes, what's wrong with them?!?
My only wish for my child is to learn the necessary basic skills and I'll let her just grow into whatever she wants to be. I strongly feels what I need to teach her is more of a moral value rather than being an A+ student.

The Age of Ignorance......?

Recent events that happened around me have inspired me to write this article. I have wonder lots of time why people are so inconsiderate these days. There are so many whys and how come……

I need to voice this out of my lungs as my toleration has come almost to the limit. There are so many things happening around us that some people choose to ignore the fact or either the (it-does-not-concern-me) attitude seems to over power their mind. Of course I am actually indicating those people who have lots of free time to laze around and do nothing often and those who choose to ignore other people life and be crude.

Like the drivers driving on the streets, they choose to ignore other drivers around them and do what they like; they don't signal while turning and does not obey the rules. Or most of them do not use their side mirror to even take a look at other drivers who are driving along the streets. How sad? Accidents happened because of their inconsideration of other persons' life. Those youngsters, who drive fast and furious on the streets, also endangered other people as well.

There are so many examples in life that shows the inconsideration of the Homo sapiens; they are only selfish people and who cares about nothing other than their own. But no matter how I believe that God will punish them one day, not by us who tolerate but by others whom they love. Their love ones will suffer for their own mistakes. As I strongly feel that God is watching over all of us, silently and waiting for the right time to show us what we have done to others.

Surely I think all people out there are kind-hearted, which I choose to believe; and maybe just say; some unpleasant things do so happened and they temporarily just ignore the others for a moment. Thus I think this is the most sensible thought of mine whenever bad things happened to me. Worse thing is that some of them just do what they like.... and behave like a child and throwing tantrums and degrading themselves morally to create havoc for others all the time.... and how come they have the time and freedom to perform these nuisances? That is also why laws and rules are made.

In most cases, those who suffer and bullied are normally people who do not want to create trouble. Mostly consists of those innocent or gentleman or the poor or even children. It does not mean that those who stay quiet will always be quite.......... as tolerance does has a limit to it as well.

The WOW factor

WOW wow... its the Chinese New Year........ most celebrated around the world where there are chinese. Well, I got everything prepared to usher the New Year, but I fell sick in the end. Well maybe a symtom of old age? Bleh, nope its the WOW factor.
The over excitement.... that made me fell sick becoz I got so busy and ignored my health! Well, the WOW factor is affecting me indirectly. heh!

Anyways, I did had my visits with relatives only, did not get to visit any friends instead they come visiting me. Hah! And so goes with my AngPows too. Bedak kid came to visit me with his parents as usual I gave him ang pow and he ate almost all the food that I served him. He told me if he ask his friends to come along izit ok? I said of course. Well you see his parents were busy so they visited me during the evening. I bring out the love letters cookies, the chips, nuts and of course the lovable petite mandarin oranges... very sweet little oranges. Of course the usual packet drinks are served as well. Gee, you'll visit almost all houses and they'll served you packet drinks without fail.... I do not know why, more like a custom already.

Well I love company so does my hubby too and all well ends well. So far we had almost over 50 people that came to my place. Well, I have decorated my place well too to accomodate all of them! Not a big place but a cozy one which me and my hubby nested in. Sure lot more organised than usual.... hahha!
Oh Yeah ... HAPPY VALENTINES TOO!

Lists of Things we do for the sake of Tradition

It's been fast and furious for the year 2007. I did not manage to run through where I've been and what I've done. Just a click..... boom we are in 2008. Wow!

Well.... we have all done the same things in ushering the New Year, Celebrating! Since December last year been having lots of events and parties to attend to till no time to rest and take a break for myself, like indulging in my day dreams.

Particularly busy these days preparing for the coming CNY.

1. Cleaning the house. ( Clearing all the things and pack it up neatly.) I thought it was easy :P

2. Plans on decorating the house...... hmmm. ( Due to open house during CNY.)

3. Shopping for CNY cakes, sweets, food. (Gifts to close relatives.)

4. Preparing the Red packets. ( Well, it's a must I guess.)

5. Buying new clothes? ( or Making them myself?)

6. Planning the food to cook on the first day of CNY. ( Better look through the recipes.)

7. Prepare to buy the ingredients. ( Go to the market earlier to stock up the food!)

8. Last but not least.... Plan to visit the relatives & friends during CNY.

See a big long list of things to do!

Well, this is the tradition and I guess it keeps us busy and getting the feel of CNY. Without all the things that you need to do, CNY is no fun at all.

Busy, busy, busy like a Bee!

Pausing for a moment...

He's consciously snoring away while I lie awake in the middle of dreamland. Annoying and frustrating, still the sound of sleep could not inspire me more to dream. A new kind of delusional dimension came to me and I realised that the world is changing faster than I thought it would be. I became more and more realistic at the moment. A sense of belonging has become blurred and the readiness to jump has overwhelmed.
Flashes of lights from the thunder soared and triggers the unsuspected notions in me. The path changes and plunged into the wild deepest darkness that I could feel and was aware that the surroundings were too dark and deep. Bewildered and scared but full of excitement gush through my nerves giving it a surreal form of happiness. These emotions are real, being so real that I could feel it in me at that moment.
The thought of jumping out of the darkness did not occur to me. The adrenaline rush from head to toe, indicates the splash of blood oozing from beneath became so hot that I do not intend for it to end. The dream had nearly come to an end, the intention of ending it does not exist. The silence of the dream had me impatiently stirring over and over, the sound of sleep had awaken me again, this time round the dream had faded, the bewilderment has ended. Soaring rain exists the tapping sound from the windows are clear. Again, the awakening, the intensity of the midnight rain had been fiercely knocking on the windows, the roaring rain had begun to show its density of movements. The wild night has begun in real, and I am still subconsciously dream and recall of what I had been through...... the pausing moment ended and I am still trying to sleep.

The World needs LOVE...

Every now and then I observe all the living beings in this world and came to realise that we all need LOVE. The world is lacking Love......

There are less people showing and showering Love and more and more people becoming greed, angry, stressed and envy of other people. Where is the Love? Is Money more powerful than love? There are more people suffering these days..... they can be rich or poor no matter, as Love is given not take.

Even kids these days are not as cheerful and gay as before. In the olden days, people are more relax and contented in thier lives. They see the world has a future. They view their lives differently. Now, our world has better technology, our kids are brighter, we have modern houses, but why our lives are not as rich as before? The poor and the rich are all suffereing from Lack of Love! Is it that our world is not a better place like it use to be? Is the world going to end? Are we still preaching for the world's end or are we making it a better place?

Are we destroying our lives, or are we enhancing it?

Are we complaining and blaming or are we lending a helping hand?

Where are our principles of live and order?

Many people are thinking that as long as I manage to live happily then I would not care about the world, as long as everything else works orderly then it will be fine. Well, personally I feel that is a selfish thought. Happiness is not forever, if the people around me are happy I will feel happy too. If they felt being loved, I will be happy too for them. Love is given, not take.

Mother's love is natural, beyond mother's love then that's something we should share.

I vow that I will do my part in this world stage. I will not hide behind doors and do nothing to share this love to the world. I'll play a small tiny role in this world stage and contribute some Love to this world and make it a better place. I've learn that complaining and blaming has no solutions. People knows very well to complain but never help to solve, I will stop complain and start to lend a helping hand. To be able to give is a blessing.

Why am I sunddenly so inspired? I have recently watch a movie 夜·明Road To Dawn(2007). It is about the brief period of time when Dr. Sun Yat-sen (孫逸仙) visited Penang. He was a Chinese revolutionary and political leader often referred to as the "father of modern China". His personal plea for financial aid at the Penang Conference held on November 13, 1910 in Malaya, helped launch a major drive for donations across the Malay Peninsula, an effort which helped finance the Second Guangzhou Uprising (also commonly known as the Yellow Flower Mound revolt) in 1911.

In Penang, the Penang Philomatic Union which was founded by Sun in 1908, has embarked on a heritage project to turn its premises at 65 Macalister Road into Dr. Sun Yat-Sen Museum.

His undying wish to help the nation has inspired me to start thinking about others and the whole wide world.

Act 9- Playground time...........

It was a bright sunny day when I was strolling along the park... and saw Bedak kid with some of his pals and Camry the dog! He was playing at the playground, running around and shouting with his friends.
I walk up to him and say hello, he ask me to join them, I was like no way... too old for that kinda fun. He was looking at me weirdly and said, " You are too old for fun? Are you sure? My mum plays with me all the time! You don't look older than my mum!" Well I said, "Kiddo, I stop running around long ago, coz I tend to sprain myself a lot..."
After a moment, some of the kids actually run and fell in front of me, I was like OUCH! I picked him up and he said thanks and continue running like nobody business. So this was how I used to be but not anymore.... how come?
We are so scared about falling and getting ourselves into trouble and scared of doing lotsa things. So these are what the grown ups worry, they tend to think too much until there's no point of having fun anymore. Is this what it is all about.... growing old and become serious?
After the meeting with Bedak kid, I realised that there are so many things in this world for us to do and to live and we have to stop being scared of all things and make measurable precautions for certain things only and not like stop having fun oursleves and being paranoid all the time like stop falling. We cannot be perfect, if one is soo perfect then misfortune will follow.

Save it for another day?

I read an article about the things we treasure. I came to realise that things that we treasure we would normally keep it and save it in a place whereby we would occasionally take a look at it and admire it once in a while.
Well, remeber those precious dishes and bowls in the kitchen that you bought for the last christmas?
Remember that gift your aunt send you... a nice bottle of perfume? The soft towel that you bought? That sexy lingerie that you save for special occasion? The bottle of wine that you bought which you want to save it for a special occasion? That pair of shoe that you polished but never wear, that restaurant that you wanted to go for ages but you never went because you are busy? You haven't called your mum as well but intended to do so..... but you are busy? That trip that you planned....... that DAY / SPECIAL OCCASION will never come if you do not let them come by! You always have a choice, how busy can you be? how much you treasure it but never put effort on it?
Life is short and you never know when or what will happen to you or someone you love, so do not give yourself excuse for whatever reasons... Your JOB is not your life! You need to have a life, treasure what you have and show it, express it, give it a try, make it happen!
Money can be earned but time waits for no man!

Brassiere - Chapter 1

Was having a discussion seesion with my fellow students about brassiere and body, and came to know that a lot of people out there, especially ladies still have no idea what a brassiere actually is and how to wear them and also how it protects our body.
Seems like this topic has become a hot topic and suddenly we were discussing about going on a field trip to visit the brassiere shop. I guess I know how most of you girls feel about buying brassiere and lingerie as I been through teenage and the process of becoming a woman then getting married!
Buying a bra is the most embarrasing moment to some, even mothers as well. The education in buying a suitable bra for oneself was being introduced from mother to child, never ever there is a course of a book to refer to. That is why there are still people out there has no idea whatsoever about buying brassieries. So in the end, many young and old ladies out there still has no idea of wearing a perfect bra!
In my opinion, education in this area is quite important, so why aren't there any formal education on this in high school? Instead, I heard alot of them in high school aparently bind up themselves to keep their boops from forming! That is really something our high school need to look into.

Time to spring clean!

Megasale is on! Time to spring clean my wardrobe! I tend to spring clean my wardrobe once in a while when I buy new clothing. I would donate part of my wardrobe leaving behind the classic stuff and donate the rest to charity house, etc. I do this so that my wardrobe will not be enlarging each time I buy new stuff. I make a point to really sort out and give away the clothes that I don't wear anymore. Of course this practise always makes me feel that I am living in a minimalism lifestyle. Keep all things simple and confine is the motto of minimalism. Hope that my shoes and bags are not piling up too high. Hehhee!

Partly this movement is motivated by the size of my wardrobe but in a way I also feel that I do not waste the spaces around me. I make full use of all the spaces in my petite apartment. :) Well, I come to love confine spaces as I do not really enjoy cleaning up big houses and I have no interest in pest control department! Confine places are OK with me but not crowded places as I do easily faint! So, again I welcome the sale and bye bye to my old clothes!

The Dating Investment....

Came across an article about relationships and came to wonder how true it is as I can see everone is practising it. The title here is pricing.... came across to me as how much a boyfriend-to-be / husband-to-be would invest on his girlfriend-to-be / wife-to-be. Why I used the word to-be because it hasn't happen yet..... that is when how much guys would invest on his girls. When the relationship has gone further than that...... the whole issue of price and money would not be necessary.

Many many think that it is too materialistic to talk about money. Romance is what people are seeking for............ tell me how long does the romance lasts? A lifetime? Only in fairytales...... so is it romantic if you keep on feeding your guy all things romantic with your own pocket money? It is a true fact. How can one ignore it! How much would a guy invest on a girl depends entirely on the girl herself. How much does she thinks she's worth? How long does she thinks she can keep the guy a lifetime? A short period of time? ........................Nothing is forever.

What a girl wants in her life is important. Also the girl must know where she stands or else all things will not go right. From the " The Joy Luck Club (film)" base on best-selling novel written by Amy Tan shows a women's worth and their belief in their worth and pride, without these qualities, guys will take advantages and girls will loose out.

Where to go, what to wear, where to eat and what to do? All these things came into the picture if you are dating or just hanging out together. All these involve money.....so who's paying? Traditionally, guys will pay but hey these days women call for equality, so girls should pay too! Now since when majority of women's pay are higher than mens? If both parties are earning the same amount, still women will be spending more on cosmetics, which mens normally won't....... women will be buying lots more clothes and shoes and have their hair done all just to hang out/ dating with men, so again who has to pay? Women?

Men on the other hand invest all the money for what? One simple answer.........sex! Alright, not all men and women are the same but majority are. Think about it!

Pin-ups!

Pin-ups are described as “a picture of a sexy and attractive girl that is displayed on walls.” Compare it with a nude picture……. which normally displayed in Museums and galleries… funny huh! Well, it’s a fact that people appreciate art and people attracted to girls are different! Both are of the same thing just a different definition. One is more of a high class amusement with taste; the other is kind of casual, street and wild nature call. Tell me about that!
Modern pin-ups are eventually pinned on the Laptop wallpaper…. Virtually, hah! Still the same subject but different ways of identifying it. Tell me what are pin-ups for? Ideally they are our dreams and our fantasies, a cult even that makes us imagine another life with the person on the wall. Some people say it releases stress, some says it inspires, some even circle around the idea of hoping to meet and touch the real person. Wow!
Actually back to basics, pin-ups are not realistic, they are man-made………with photoshop, colour enhance, etc.) this shows our human brains can be cheated and make-believe, that’s how I think. People always love the idea to fantasize. What is reality always sucks!
Pin-ups can be a way of imagining a different character that you will be. The “id” is strong, in Freudian terms, it's call the principle of pleasures. The id is suppose to be primal, and does not take account of the thinking brain, it ignores the brain but still part of it.
So, some call it a therapy, helps to reduce stress. After a tiring day need to seek peace and pleasure within and call it self meditation. Right! Maybe it’s true, it does help, who cares everyone indeed need some space to fantasize and imagine. Bettie Page, Marilyn Monroe, Dita Von Teese, etc. are some of the famous 50s retro style pin-ups girls.

About this Blog of mine...

I came across this idea about creating this blog nearly few weeks ago, some people had asked me why? Also, I have use a nickname as well, and they ask me why too? A lot of 'Y's !! Alright, I think I will explain it here.
For me, writing a diary in the my younger days was a habit for me, but since then I was busy with my life and I stop doing it for a while. Now and then, time changes and I have come to think of life passes on every single minute and before I knew things happen and changes. I feel that my life is going on so fast that I had no time to look back and think. I want to record some of the events and ideas that came across me, so that I can share to others who had the same experiences and knowledge. Also, I think that maybe my future generations will get to see how I felt before about life and everything else.
Pictures and images can be recorded here for people to see the way I see things and feel them. I hope this blog will benefit all. I have my choice to links and topics, if you like you can drop in a comment. I do hope that this blog inspires all too.
About my nickname and blog address, it was inspire from Dante Alighieri. An Italian poet and writer. I love his 'Divine's comedy'. If you had read about his perception on Inferno, Purgotory and Paradise, you'll know what I mean. Matilda (in Dante's spelling "Matelda," representing "Lady Philosophy," is the object of Dante's affection after Beatrice. The picture here shows Dante's meeting with Matelda.
Now you know where this blog is inspire from!

Is it safe to even Walk?

This morning, I woke up and thought to myself that maybe I walk to the wet market today and buy some breakfast. So, I wake up, brush myself clean and prepare to set out on my trip. I put on my sunnies, slip on a sling bag and bring along an umbrella, as it was a Hot sunny day. I intended to put on my sunblock but didn't do so as I do not like the sticky feeling on my skin, yuks!
The distance was not too far just a few blocks away, I start my journey by walking along the sidewalk, holding my umbrella and cling on to my bag. Why I highlight this issue is, I suddenly realise it wasn't so safe for me to walk alone on the streets as I have heard a lot of news that there are lots of snatch thiefs around the neighbourhood! So I became cautious everytime and cling tight to my bag whenever a motorbike pass through my way. SAD huh! I actually wanted to enjoy this short trip as I feel I might see things differently on my way to the market and also it benefits me (as in healthy), but then again, I'll think twice if I want to venture out on this small trip again.
Another sad feature about my trip is, everytime a car drove by, the driver will pause and stare at me like I am weird or some sort....*sigh*.... so you can say that I am sensitive but it's true!
So tell me if my short trip is safe? It makes me wonder how safe the neighbourhood is! I guess in future, we might have a definate place for short walks......... maybe!

Illusions

My mind is always full of ideas, thoughts and illusions. I wonder whether everyone has this same belief. I tend to wake up every morning and all the illusions and thoughts flash through my mind like telling me what to do today. It happens so often that I normally venture to explore them and even do some research on it. The amazing part is, normally I would create some new designs or even explore some new ideas with it.
I often think of it as tiny little fairies are whispering to me; guiding and inspiring me. Well, it almost sounded mythical, right? Oscar Wilde was quoted saying that, "Illusion is the first of all pleasures." Guess what he says is true. Believe it or not, we all have an imaginative mind, just that sometimes we are not listening to it.

This Morning....

Just drop in a line or two to kick off this blog..... *wink*, well here's one quote for the day, "Let your feelings flow for one day, let it affects the people around you today." So, that's it, feelings people, feel your self today and let the sun shines on you. Have a nice day.
