Kusudama project

I have been doing some research on flower folding techniques and I found out about this Kusudama Flower ball which caught my attention. So I decided to give it a go myself by following the tutorial instructions, well not bad indeed right? The picture above shows only one flower with a combination of 5 petals. Ah Yes... this is a Sakura (Cherry Blossom flower).

Here the picture shows half of the flower ball, which has a total of 6 flowers. So if you want to create a flower ball it has to be a total of 12 flowers. Interesting huh! I use some origami folding paper and some recycle paper for this project. So now you can reuse your recycle paper for a decorative idea. Hurray for going GREEN!
If you would like to know how to fold this go check out the tutorial in this website:

Impressive, Expressive & Suffocating!

Recently I have watched the movie Burlesque which is a 2010 Golden Globe award winning musical film directed and written by Steven Antin and starring Christina Aguilera and Cher. Well, I have always love Burlesque performances; although I did not watch any live one for real, only the movie. SO anything to do with Burlesque had caught my attention, like Dita Von Teese is still my favorite though. Well, the picture above is quite interesting as it portrays a romantic, sensual yet sexy lady like what an ideal woman should be. Well, guess it is just my interpretation only.
The interesting part is who the illustrator is. He is Vania Zouravliov, I was not familiar with him until now. And I think I kinda have fallen in love with his style of illustration and really wish I could illustrate like that. He really reminds me of Aubrey Vincent Beardsley, an english illustrator whoose works are similar in the style of grotesque , the decadent, and the erotic. Well, Vania's more chilling in the sense as his works have more details.

Don't you just love these images by Vania? Really impressively chilling, yet amazingly beautiful!

My Lovely Mini Book

Well, I have created a mini book for myself. It is a mini scrapbook that I can bring around anywhere I like in my bag. I have compile some photos of baby and me in this mini book so when I miss my baby I can browse through the pictures in this mini scrapbook. Brilliant right? Also if anyone wants to see what my baby look like this will be perfect and I don't need to bring my baby along. :)
So you see I still wanna go out sometime and not stay home all the time with baby. Too much sticking around with baby is not so good for her and me. If she becomes too clingy then I'll be in trouble. Alrighty... will update my mini book every now and then too as baby grow.

Baby's Huggy Pouch II

I promise to show you this larger version of huggy pouch... so here it is. As you can view from the picture; this larger version can wrap around baby's whole body across the chest or tummy area. This will give baby a more hugging feeling when she's sleeping. If the materials are made of felt or cashmere then it can double serve as a mini blanket too! As our weather here is so hot, although it is made of cotton, it is a mini blankie for my baby. LOL!

The Origami Mobile

It's been weeks that I wanted to buy a singing mobile for my baby and attach it to her cot; then again while searching for it... I find it either too expensive or some not to my taste. In the end, I made this myself for my little one. No music though just simple Origami Crane and Box. I have found some old Japanese colour origami rice paper and I bought a red and white wrapping paper to match it. Viola.... here's my hand-made origami mobile! It's lovely right? :)

Activating the Senses

I was browsing through some website and decided to create a series of books and gadgets base on activating the baby's senses.
As we all know, a baby and child early education is base on their senses. The sense of touch, visual, smell, tastes and listen are the most basic things that a baby learn while they are young. So I intend to create the following gadgets in order to help the child to learn. I know we can easily obtain a series of toys to help the child to learn but I prefer a more personal touch to these toys to aid my child to learn.
1. A Touch book
2. A Visual book
3. Some Noise gadgets
Hopefully I'll finish before the baby comes! LOL...:)

My LeSportsac Diaper Bag

Mum bought me a lovely LeSportsac bag to carry my baby stuff. The bag is huge enough to put in all things for baby. But it lacks of compartments to put the things in order, especially milk bottles. It will spill here and there if I were to put it in and look messy. So in order to organize it properly I have created my own version of portable elastic compartments that I can convert an ordinary bag into a diaper bag anytime; which is flexible and also easy to use. I am so proud of this Portable bottle holder which I can use it over and over again without damaging the original bag design. So if I do not want to use this bag as a diaper bag I can just convert it anytime!
This is what it looks like inside the bag. As you can see there are no compartments whatsoever, but big enough to put all things in.

This is my lovely creation of the 'Portable bottle holder'. Here you can see that I can easily slot in all the bottles and it stays in place and will not toss and tumble in the bag.

On the reverse side, I add in some elastic to make it a slot easy to hold the diapers and wipes in place! LOL.
Now you can see how easily I slot in the portable bottle holder into the bag and convert the bag into a Diaper Bag! Viola! Well, I love this "Portable Bottle holder" don't you?
By the way, if you ever want to customized your bag and convert into a diaper bag... drop me a line. LOL!

Zoo Blankie for Baby......

As you all know I am busy doing my projects.... this is another project for my Baby. It's a rainbow colour "Zoo Blankie" or quilt as most people call it. I manage to find the colourful animals pattern fabric in Ikea and I got lucky with the rainbow stripes fabric which I found in a local quilt store. I love the colours and the combination of patterns, it just suits don't you think so? While the main colour is still pink as it's a baby girl colour. I almost use the quilting method but I found out that it is too much work for me now; so I did some research and found this easy method which does not require much sewing. A tied baby quilt is good for me. You can find the methods in this website http://www.everythingsewing.net/babyquilt.htm
Of course I did some modification as I do not want the string to hang all out at the front of the blankie! :)

DingDing (Version1) - Rag doll

Been busy lately with my pet projects for my Baby girl. I have created a new rag doll named, "DingDing". She is a modification of Ruby dolls & Chibi dolls. You can view from this website - Make Your Own Baby Chibi Doll! by OneRedRobin. Well, I could not really find a rag doll that I like so I have decided to make my own.
This is a Chibi doll.............

This is a Ruby Doll.............

The pictures here are my own version of "DingDing". I have inserted some bells in it so it will make some 'ding ding' sound when you shake the doll. Lovely isn't it?

National Art Gallery, KL

Pink Mushrooms anyone? I love these cute mushrooms that are popping out from each and every corner of the gallery. They reminds me off those cheeky little children that runs around making lots of noises and always capturing our attention each time.
Another piece of art work that capture my heart. This art piece shows the people, the community that come together to work and play. It narrates the simple life that we used to live in. Not as complicated as it is now. Also the rawness of the colour acknowledges the primitive way of life that the "orang asli" or aborigines still living in now.

Trip to the Museum

A field trip with students to the Museum & Gallery Tuanku Fauziah at USM today.

Interesting depiction of a Sarong batik by the artist,
Mohd Noor Mahmud,Acrylic wood on canvas, 2007.

This is my favourite piece, titled "7 images in 2 hours"

by Mohd. Daud B. Abd. Rahim, 2002.

This one is an interesting art piece.... showing the Chinese Kampong culture, mixing a lot of Malay culture influences.

Some of my students doing interative drawings at the gallery.

Mime in Penang!

Well it's true, Not long ago, little Penang Street Market had an interesting moment, whereby you can see these people all in White walking around trying to speak to everyone with their smiley faces and hands, with a big smile on their face. Here shows the artist and his trainees performing spontaneously.
If you are wondering what mime is....., it is actually one of the oldest forms of the theatre (the dramatic art of representing scenes from life through expressive bodily and facial movements).
A bit of history about Pantomime
Pantomime in Greece, often took the form of mimetic dances. The art of gesture was called orchesis, from which we get the word orchestra, the Greek term for a dancing place.
The Romans were especially fond of pantomime. The sketches were often played as afterpieces to the written plays, or even between acts. Two famous players (both freed slaves), were Pylades and Bathyllus.
The Empress Theodora of Byzantium, a ruler remarkable for her concern with the welfare of women and performers, was a pantomime player from her childhood until shortly before her marriage to Emperor Justinian.
Wanna know more....

Paper costumes

Recently, my students have participated in a paper costume competition. I am please that they have constructed different kinds of wedding gown for the event. Great creativity has been shown through their work of art. These are those wonderful tissue flowers...
Using toilet paper rolls to create texture, marvelous creation!
Paper cut flowers on the wedding gown.
Obviously is the Japanese origami influence paper towel's flower. Here shows the designer working on the garment.
Interesting texture and roses, nicely done.
The designer and her friend lending a helping hand......... using tapes and glue. All these creation can be worn by a model and parade in the fashion show. These are all the designers and their models wearing their creations. All the hair styles, make-up and accessories are prepared by the designer to create the look and style of their own.

Actually, I am impressed with all their work. They manage to finish everthing within 2 days. Congratulations to all who participate and won prizes. As the saying goes, you never try you never know. To all my students, Best of luck to your future creations!
